A N N E B O N N Y: ‘Riverside’

May 30, 2013 0 comments

We recently stumbled across this killer track from the Atlanta 2-piece A N N E B O N N Y (Anne Bonny) and were compelled to post based simply on one song (something we typically don’t do). Fronted by the loops and harmonies from Amy Godwin & Elizabeth Finlon, the track ‘Riverside’ will leave you jaw dropped and full of goose bumps.

For fans of Mountain Man, stream/download the ‘Riverside’ below and keep up with A N N E B O N N Y via Facebook HERE. We are definitely eager to hear more from these ATL ladies very soon.

Shannon and the Clams: ‘Dreams in the Rat House’

May 20, 2013 0 comments

Being huge fans of their sophomore full-length ‘Sleep Talk,’ we have been pretty pumped about Shannon and the Clams‘ newest LP (and major label debut) ‘Dreams in the Rat House,’ which drops tomorrow (5/21) via Hardly Art. The record features guest appearances by Mikal Cronin, Noelle Cahill (Magic Trick, the Sandwitches), & Paula Frazer and is all-together a pretty damn good album. Classic Clams that does not disappoint and classic song writing from front-woman Shannon Shaw, who most of us know as the key ingredient to the band Hunx and His Punx.

Hardly Art has made the full record available to stream for a limited time! So scroll down to stream the album below and pre-order the record before tomorrow HERE to get it pressed on limited-edition opaque pale yellow wax! Also, download the singles ‘Into a Dream’ and ‘Rip Van Winkle’ (also below) as well as stream the 14-minute Shannon and the Clams documentary featuring the band as they toured prior to the release of ‘Dreams in the Rat House.’

Get To Know: Blank Range

May 20, 2013 0 comments

Some of our most favorite leads to new and up-and-coming bands are actually from other bands themselves, especially from ones who have already earned that special place in our heart. And ever since Diarrhea Planet introduced us to the band Blank Range, we’ve been streaming their new 6-track EP ‘Phase II’ like a mad man!

With just a cassette-tape EP into the game, this Nashville 5-piece are screaming with potential and have us hungry for more. Fortunately, you don’t need to dust off the old cassette player to experience these 6 killer tracks. Sit back and enjoy the ‘Phase II” EP below. And if you know how we roll, hopefully a vinyl release of these jams are in the near future. Nothing against tape, but these tracks are definitely wax worthy.

Pick up ‘Phase II’ on cassette or MP3 via Sturdy Girls Records (for a mere $4 tape or $2 download) HERE:

Dead Ghosts: ‘Roky Said’

February 14, 2013 0 comments

Damn, do we love us some Dead Ghosts! Their 2010 debut LP from Florida’s Dying Records still makes its way to our turntables monthly! Why do we mention this you ask? Well, the 4-piece from Vancouver are gearing up for their sophomore record, ‘Can’t Get No,’ dropping on April 30th via one of our favorite labels out there, Burger Records.

The first taste from the LP has come just in time for Valentine’s day via MTV Hive (of all the places). So give a whirl to the band’s first single, ‘Roky Said,’ below and get ready for a vinyl pre-order from Burger in the near future, including some limited wax pressings… While ‘yer at it, also check out a few key tracks from their debut with the free downloads of ‘When It Comes To You’ and ‘Getting Older.’ The LP is currently out-of-print, but there should be a repressing via Florida’s Dying around the time ‘Can’t Get No’ drops in April. Enjoy:

Clear Plastic Masks are one of our favorite live acts out there right now. Not only that, they’re some of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. We say all this with excitement as the band debuted the first single, ‘So Real,’ from their debut self-titled full-length record on SPIN.com last week! The track is one of many that were recorded at Bomb Shelter Studios in Nashville since they’ve moved there from Brooklyn last fall.

The boys will be traveling though the states the next couple months with some limited-edition copies of that LP, which are ONLY AVAILABLE via the hand-full of dates below. One date particular is here in Chattanooga at Rhythm & Brews with Banditos (Birmingham, AL) and Chattanooga’s own Eight Knives (get your tickets HERE) … Is it us or with a SPIN debut and a limited edition tour only LP, does someone smell a record deal?

Stream the studio track of ‘So Real’ HERE and catch a killer live version of the single shot by Joshua Shoemaker below… Also keep an ear out for some studio material from the Brittany Howard side project Thunderbitch, which we’re pretty sure should be seeing the light-of-day around the time this new LP drops later in Spring. Gibby Haynes: New Third Man Records Release!

February 6, 2013 0 comments

We were very excited to hear the news that Butthole Surfers front-man Gibby Haynes has returned with a special 3-song release from Jack White‘s Third Man Records! The record features 2 original songs, ‘You Don’t Have To Be Smart’ and ‘Horse Named George,’ and the A-side, which is a Adrenalin OD cover of ‘Paul’s Not Home.’ Check out the album art above and stream the full A-sdie below:

On top of that, limited edition versions of the 7-inch will be pressed on FLEX-RAY DISC, which are flexi discs (similar to the pressing that TMR did when Jack White’s single was distributed via blue balloons last Spring — See details here), but pressed on OLD MEDICAL X-RAYS! These will only be sold via Third Man’s Rolling Record Store at Austin’s SXSW festival. Here is a visual of what the final product will look like via Gizmodo:

And if that wasn’t enough, the record not only features Gibby Haynes, but Mr. Jack White on guitar, Ben Swank (Soledad Brothers, Ultras S/C, Third Man Record manager) on drums and Fats Kaplin on bass…. The record drops on Valentine’s day (2/14), so if you won’t be at SXSW this year, or just prefer your tunes pressed on black wax, pre-order the record HERE!

Hanni El Khatib: ‘Can’t Win ‘Em All’

February 5, 2013 0 comments

We have been in high anticipation for a couple Dan Auerbach produced LPs set to drop in 2013, Hanni El Khatib‘s follow-up to his 2011 release ‘Will The Guns Come Out,’ and South Rail fav Nikki Lane‘s ‘Seein’ Double.’

We haven’t heard anything from Nikki Lane yet, for the exception of a couple public performances featuring Mr. Auerbach on lead guitar, BUT we finally get our first taste of some new Hanni El Khatib material with his single ‘Can’t Win ‘Em All!’ The song was also featured in the new Audi “Prom” commercial that premiered during the Super Bowl on Sunday.

This track is 1 of 2 singles that have made its way to the public this week, coming from Khatib’s new album ‘Head in the Dirt’ (dropping 4/30). The second track, ‘Family,’ was featured yesterday via Rolling Stone…Stream the full song and check out the Audi commercial below. Dig it? Then download the single NOW via iTunes HERE… and when you’re done, check out ‘Family’ over at Rolling Stone HERE:

And this is our favorite track from his last album, check it:
