Lace Curtains: ‘A Signed Piece Of Paper’

We are still bummed about the current hiatus (or possible end) of the Austin, Texas trio Harlem, but from that departing has birthed some great tunes from others bands coming from all 3 members – From Curtis O’Mara’s Grape St. to Jose Boyer’s Las Rosas – And not to mention Michael Coomers’ Lace Curtains, who’s 2012 release ‘The Garden Of Joy And The Well Of Loneliness’ still graces our turntable monthly.

So with that said, not only were were pretty pumped to hear that Lace Curtains has returned with a sophomore LP, ‘A Signed Piece Of Paper,’ but glad we waited a couple of weeks to pick up the new record that came out last month via Female Fantasy Records… Why you ask? Well, thought Burger Records’ eBay account (Nopickles), Lace Curtains is releasing a Burger-exclusive bundle version of the LP that come with a limited edition screen-printed/hand-painted posters by Michael Coomers!

ACT FAST, because there are only 100 and those suckers won’t last long! Pick up your limited bundle of HERE… Or if you’re too late there are still copies at via Lace Curtains’ tumblr page HERE

Check out a couple key tracks from the ‘A Signed Piece Of Paper’ LP below including the official video for ‘The Fly.’

Could This Be the End of Harlem? (Part 2)

December 28, 2011 0 comments

In July we wrote a about the possible break-up or hiatus of the Austin trio HarlemRead the full article HERE — speculations based on rumors and the band being dropped from Matador Records‘ active roster this summer… Now to add to these unverified facts and tweets are 2 new side-projects/bands from some of Harlem’s members:

Curtis O’Mara is still in Austin and is now fronting Grape St., a band who now have a few videos floating around the internet of live shows from this fall. Check’em out below… Not too far off from Harlem at all:

Jose Boyer is now living in Brooklyn, NY and is playing bass for Daytona, who already released an EP last month. Check out the ‘Storm So Long’ EP below and if you’ll be in the NYC area next month, catch them at Glasslands Gallery Thursday January 12th:

At the time of this article, we could not find material on any projects from Michael Coomers… We’ll keep you posted.

Could this be the end of Harlem? We hope not

July 4, 2011 1 Comment

A couple months ago, we were catching a show at our favorite Chattanooga venue, JJ’s Bohemia. A good friend of ours came up to us and said “Did you hear about Harlem? They broke-up today.” We didn’t want to believe it. And ever since, have heard nothing else about it. So we just disregarded it as just a bad rumor.

This weekend, while doing a little on-line vinyl shopping, we cruised on over to Matador Records and were shocked to see Harlem was removed from their Active Roster and were now considered Matador Alumni.

This instantly recalled that rumor we previously heard, so we decided to to ask the band & label directly via twitter. We posted the question below and Harlem posted the following just moments later:

Could this twitter post be directed to ours? Could this be the end of Harlem? We truly hope not! As we said, Hippies is a classic. Free Drugs killed it. It would be disappointing to know this is the end to one of our favorite bands.
