It’s rare for us to post about an artist simply with one track… not that we haven’t in the past… But once you first dig into the video of Cedartown, Georgia’s Jason Wilkes’ debut single “Let’s Go Back” you’ll see why we couldn’t resist!
Recorded live and solo to video using 9 multiple layers, this track isn’t just about the visuals…. the song is gradually crafted before your eyes… This single is highly addictive, catchy… with one hook after another and we are on the edge of our seat anticipating more.
Jason is no first-timer to the music biz, performing for years under Christian-Rock bands High Flight Society and Disciple… and for a brief time playing lead guitar for Sam Hunt‘s live band.
Check out “Let’s Go Back” below… and keep posted on more things to come from Jason Wilkes… Keep track of him HERE and subscribe to his YouTube page HERE to keep up-to-date with other videos like his cover of Zac Brown’s “Colder Weather.”
It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from Birmingham, Alabama’s Dirty Lungs… but just seconds into the band’s newest track, ’I Suck In Bed,’ it was well worth the wait… This is the first single from Dirty Lungs’ self-titled LP that drops July 15th via Communicating Vessels Records.
The video for ‘I Suck In Bed’ premiered on MUZU.tv yesterday. Stream that sucker below and pick-up you copy of the record HERE on the 15th(no pre-order)… And if you’re near any of the locations/dates below, catch these fellas live. They put on a guaranteed damn good show!

‘Big House’ is the third and latest video from Deer Tick’s newest full-length, 2013’s ‘Negativity,’ which dropped via Partisan Records in September. Pick up your own copy HERE if you haven’t already (there are still a few left pressed in limited edition sky blue)… Deer Tick are currently overseas touring for ‘Negativity,’ but will be back in the Southeast in May for Atlanta’s Shaky Knees Festival. See full tour listing HERE:
While on the topic of the LP ‘Negativity,’ there is a killer track from that record called ‘In Our Time’ which features duet vocals from Vanessa Carlton, the singer/songwriter who is now going by Mrs. John McCauley… The now husband & wife were married in December by the one-and-only Stevie Nicks! How cool is that? Congratulations to the happy couple! And check out a live version of ‘In Our Time’ featuring Vanessa Carlton below:
First off, if you haven’t picked up J. Roddy Walston & the Business‘s LP ‘Essential Tremors’ yet, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy HERE… it’s hands-down one of the best albums of 2013.
Secondly, check out this amazing live rendition of ‘Boys Can Never Tell’ by Shovels & Rope with J. Roddy Walston, a track that comes from J. Roddy’s ‘Essential Tremors’… A killer session and video, well done Mr. Shoemaker.
We love us some \\GT// from Birmingham, AL, but damn, with a name like \\GT//, it’s not always the easiest to stumble across their material on the web. Thanks to a shout from director Albert Kuhne, who has done a lot of camera work for Joshua Shoemaker (Banditos, Clear Plastic Masks), we finally discovered this gem! The video is for the track ‘To The Sea,’ which is from \\GT//’s debut EP ‘Heavy Dreams’ that dropped earlier this year.
We were lucky enough to catch the band this Summer at JJ’s Bohemia, and this video makes us ready to catch ’em live again! Check out ‘To The Sea’ below and while you’re at it, dig into the full ‘Heavy Dreams’ EP as well as \\GT//’s new 3-song EP ‘Get Tryin” which came out last month via limited edition hand printed cassette tape… Like tapes? GET IT HERE!
Warm Soda‘s latest LP, ‘Someone Like You,’ is one of our favorite records so far to drop in 2013!.. And it’s not just because we were one of the lucky few to snag a translucent blue with rainbow splatter version of the record (see below) released via Thee Oh Sees‘ label Castle Face Records in January. We hate comparisons, but this LP definitely gives us those same warm and fuzzy feelings The Strokes first 2 records gave us in the 2000s… just saying.
‘Busy Lizzy,’ is the first single to score an official music video, which was shot entirely with a VHS camera and complements the grittiness of their music perfectly. Check it out below along with a stream of the LP’s title track (that also shows the beautiful limited edition wax). Score a copy of ‘Someone Like You’ on black HERE and catch Warm Soda somewhere in the United States this Spring, as they tour excessively throughout the next couple months. Full tour dates below:

We recently stumbled across this gem that shows the mad talent behind Nashville’s The Kingston Springs! It’s not like every rock band out there can perform a Bluegrass version of their own rock song. Then add it being recorded live from Colorado National Monument and you’ve got one hell of a video.
Watch the boys perform ‘Lowest of Animals’ Bluegrass style and compare/contrast with the original below that… Oh, and if you have yet, purchase their debut self-titled LP (which is finally available on wax) HERE – An album that ranked #6 on our Top 13 Albums of 2013!
Joshua Shoemaker is not only one of the best up-and-coming film producers out there, capturing live music at its best… but the guy has a great ear for music as well. So when he came to us with 2 new videos for the Birmingham, Alabama–based band The Great American Breakdown, he had our full attention.
Let us introduce you to TGAB, a band who started several years ago to later split, but then reformed in 2011 refreshed and ready to take the South (and world) by storm. We haven’t had the chance to catch this 4-piece live yet, especially since they don’t venture much from their Alabama turf… but just as simple as watching 2 captivating videos, we are first in line!
Check out ‘The Peak’ and ‘Past Company, Accompanied’ below. Both tracks were performed live on January 4th, 2013 at The Bottletree in Birmingham. And follow the band HERE to keep track of when these guys are heading to a city near you. Enjoy:
