Those Darlins: ‘Blur the Line’

October 2, 2013 0 comments

Yesterday marked the release date for our pals Those Darlins‘ new LP ‘Blur the Line,’ a record we have been eagerly awaiting for the past year… And a wait that was well worth it if we might add. This is the follow-up to 2011’s ‘Screws Get Loose,’ and the first record from the band NOT to feature founding member Kelley Anderson, who has been replaced by Atlanta’s Adrian Barrera of Barreracudas and Gentleman Jesse & His Men.

Regardless of band history, Those Darlins continue to top themselves with ‘Blur the Line,’ keeping themselves fresh while growing as artists, but at the same time giving a friendly nod to their previous 2 full-lengths, with sprinkles and dashes of the Darlins we have grown to love — Killer up-beat tracks such as ‘Optimist’ and ‘In the Wilderness,’ and equally killer tracks ‘Oh God’ and ‘Too Slow,’ that slows things down at those perfect moments.

Check out a few tracks and live takes from ‘Blur the Line’ below and pick up the new LP HERE… or in-person this Saturday! Those Darlins return to Chattanooga October 5th at JJ’s Bohemia! Tickets are $10 and are available HERE (or at the door night of the show)… See you there!:

Nikki Lane: First Taste from “Seein’ Double”

May 30, 2013 0 comments

We have been highly anticipating Nikki Lane‘s sophomore LP, “Seein’ Double,” even before she hit the studio last Fall with producer Dan Auerbach (of The Black Keys) at his Nashville recording studio, Easy Eye Sound Studio. Tracks from the album haven’t been released yet, but thanks to a 4-song live session with Daytrotter that dropped this Memorial Day, we finally get a glimpse of what to expect once “Seein’ Double” hits the shelves.

The session includes the LP’s titled track, the heavy-hearted song “Good Man,” and our personal favorite, “Right Time,” which you can stream for a limited time below. Check out the full Daytrotter session HERE and keep an ear out “Seein’ Double” later this year.

And while we are talking about highly-anticpated Nikki Lane records… When do you think we’ll hear some tunes from Nikki’s side project Precious Stones? Hopefully soon… Click HERE for details.

Get To Know: Blank Range

May 20, 2013 0 comments

Some of our most favorite leads to new and up-and-coming bands are actually from other bands themselves, especially from ones who have already earned that special place in our heart. And ever since Diarrhea Planet introduced us to the band Blank Range, we’ve been streaming their new 6-track EP ‘Phase II’ like a mad man!

With just a cassette-tape EP into the game, this Nashville 5-piece are screaming with potential and have us hungry for more. Fortunately, you don’t need to dust off the old cassette player to experience these 6 killer tracks. Sit back and enjoy the ‘Phase II” EP below. And if you know how we roll, hopefully a vinyl release of these jams are in the near future. Nothing against tape, but these tracks are definitely wax worthy.

Pick up ‘Phase II’ on cassette or MP3 via Sturdy Girls Records (for a mere $4 tape or $2 download) HERE:

Clear Plastic Masks are one of our favorite live acts out there right now. Not only that, they’re some of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. We say all this with excitement as the band debuted the first single, ‘So Real,’ from their debut self-titled full-length record on SPIN.com last week! The track is one of many that were recorded at Bomb Shelter Studios in Nashville since they’ve moved there from Brooklyn last fall.

The boys will be traveling though the states the next couple months with some limited-edition copies of that LP, which are ONLY AVAILABLE via the hand-full of dates below. One date particular is here in Chattanooga at Rhythm & Brews with Banditos (Birmingham, AL) and Chattanooga’s own Eight Knives (get your tickets HERE) … Is it us or with a SPIN debut and a limited edition tour only LP, does someone smell a record deal?

Stream the studio track of ‘So Real’ HERE and catch a killer live version of the single shot by Joshua Shoemaker below… Also keep an ear out for some studio material from the Brittany Howard side project Thunderbitch, which we’re pretty sure should be seeing the light-of-day around the time this new LP drops later in Spring. Gibby Haynes: New Third Man Records Release!

February 6, 2013 0 comments

We were very excited to hear the news that Butthole Surfers front-man Gibby Haynes has returned with a special 3-song release from Jack White‘s Third Man Records! The record features 2 original songs, ‘You Don’t Have To Be Smart’ and ‘Horse Named George,’ and the A-side, which is a Adrenalin OD cover of ‘Paul’s Not Home.’ Check out the album art above and stream the full A-sdie below:

On top of that, limited edition versions of the 7-inch will be pressed on FLEX-RAY DISC, which are flexi discs (similar to the pressing that TMR did when Jack White’s single was distributed via blue balloons last Spring — See details here), but pressed on OLD MEDICAL X-RAYS! These will only be sold via Third Man’s Rolling Record Store at Austin’s SXSW festival. Here is a visual of what the final product will look like via Gizmodo:

And if that wasn’t enough, the record not only features Gibby Haynes, but Mr. Jack White on guitar, Ben Swank (Soledad Brothers, Ultras S/C, Third Man Record manager) on drums and Fats Kaplin on bass…. The record drops on Valentine’s day (2/14), so if you won’t be at SXSW this year, or just prefer your tunes pressed on black wax, pre-order the record HERE!

The Kingston Springs: ‘Lowest of Animals’ (Bluegrass Version)

February 5, 2013 0 comments

We recently stumbled across this gem that shows the mad talent behind Nashville’s The Kingston Springs! It’s not like every rock band out there can perform a Bluegrass version of their own rock song. Then add it being recorded live from Colorado National Monument and you’ve got one hell of a video.

Watch the boys perform ‘Lowest of Animals’ Bluegrass style and compare/contrast with the original below that… Oh, and if you have yet, purchase their debut self-titled LP (which is finally available on wax) HERE – An album that ranked #6 on our Top 13 Albums of 2013!
