Diamond Rugs: Voodoo Doll

January 5, 2015 0 comments

We have been eagerly awaiting for new material from the super-group side-project Diamond Rugs (featuring members of Deer Tick, Black Lips, Dead Confederate and Los Lobos) since they dropped the hint of new studio work to be released in 2015. Note: Their debut self-titled LP is one that is VERY near and dear to our hearts, and was actually our #1 record in our Top albums of 2012.

Well, wait no longer! Earlier today via KCRW, the band premiered the new track ‘Voodoo Doll,’ the first single from their forthcoming album ‘Cosmetic.’ And, as expected, the song delivers strong and picks up perfectly where the S/T record left off. Looking forward to hear the full record.

Stream ‘Voodoo Doll’ below and pre-order ‘Cosmetic’ HERE. Full track listing below:

Stream: Diamond Rugs ‘Voodoo Doll’

5. Live and Shout It

Native America: ‘Grown Up Wrong’

November 19, 2014 0 comments

NativeA-c

Hailing from New Orleans, Native America have just dropped their latest full-length ‘Grown Up Wrong’ via Inflated Records… This is a record that was on our radar prior to the LP’s release from the hand-full of few killer singles like ‘Digital Lobotomy’ and ’Naturally Lazy’, but after finally sinking our teeth into the full 11-tracks, we are walking away bigger fans than we were and ready to listen all over again. Solid album, front to back!

But don’t take our words for it… listen for yourself! Stream the full ‘Grown Up Wrong’ LP below and if you’re diggin’ it, pick up a copy HERE… A limited 150 copies of the record are pressed on opaque silver vinyl so ACT FASTALSO, remember to include that you want the “opaque silver vinyl” in a Paypal note when you order if you want one! That’s the only way to make it happen. Enjoy:

Labryyynth_c

It’s not very common for us to start following a band on Twitter or Instagram that we have no clue about, let alone any music to even sample… but something about LABRYYYNtH’s social media accounts just intrigued us. So earlier this Summer when we received a follow the band, we followed back and have been secretly stalking LABRYYYNtH via their Twitter and Instagram ever since.

Well, come to find out, our gut musical instinct with this band was pretty spot-on,… let us introduce you to LABRYYYNtH, a new project featuring Dimitri Manos of Dr. Dog and other members of Golden Boots!.. The Coathangers: ‘Sex Beat’ (Gun Club cover)

As if their latest record ‘Suck My Shirt’ wasn’t enough, Atlanta’s The Coathangers just released a limited 7-inch via their label Suicide Squeeze Records featuring the Gun Club cover ‘Sex Beat,’ as well as a Lost Sounds cover of ‘Energy Drink & The Long Walk Home’ by These Arms Are Snakes.

You’re probably wondering: “That’s an odd pairing since These Arms Are Snakes broke-up back in 2009” – But not only are the 2 bands from the same label, around the time TAAS de-banded, they were touring the East Coast with The Coathangers, making this 7-inch split an extra fine pairing (that makes a little more sense).

We haven’t heard the Lost Sounds cover yet, which was salvaged from some unfinished recordings, but we can vouch for smokin’ ‘Sex Beat’ cover… what do you expect… its the damn Coathangers! Stream ‘Sex Beat’ below, as well at The Coathangers latest LP ‘Suck My Shirt.’ The full LP is available to stream for a limited time, so dig it!

Pick up the ‘Sex Beat’ 7-inch HERE (Only 1,000 pressed on clear w/ red and black splatter) – And while you’re at it pick up the latest repress of ‘Suck My Shirt’ as well, pressed on a limited pink/clear haze:

Houndmouth: ‘For No One’

November 10, 2014 0 comments

hmouth14-c

Houndmouth have been hard at work this Summer in West Nashville with producer Dave Cobb recording their follow-up to last year’s debut LP, ‘From the Hills Below the City.’ And with recent jems produced by Cobb like Jason Isbell’s ‘Southeaster’ and Strugill Simpson’s ‘Metamodern Sounds in Country Music,’ we have been eagerly awaiting the results!!!

The new record isn’t due until early next year, but to hold us over, the band and Rough Trade Records have given us a first-taste of the new, yet-untitled LP via NPR’s All Songs Considered with the haunting, striped-down track ‘For No One.’

The single alone shows much growth from the previous record with its raw, bare-bones take… Add the new songs we heard when the band stopped by Chattanooga this Summer, and we are all in store for one hell of an album!

Stream ‘For No One’ below and read the full Ann Powers interview with Houndmouth frontman Matt Myers HERE.

Duke Chevalier: ‘Hanging Onto the Vision’

February 24, 2014 0 comments

dukec-cThe track ‘Hanging Onto the Vision’ by Duke Chevalier has been our latest obsession. The new project is fronted by Seattle artist Sam Eliot who recently relocated to California to start recording under the name Duke Chevalier… and we are so glad that he did.

Dig right into the highly addictive track ‘Hanging Onto the Vision’ below and if ‘yer still into Facebook, “like” Duke Chevalier HERE because according to the band, the only way to hear another track is for them to reach 500 likes. Let’s hope we’ll hear something before that. Fingers crossed:
